J.S. Gill’s first business empire, RSH Ltd (Royal Sporting House), spanned 520 free-standing stores, 570 shop-in-shops and 28 retail concepts. A publicly listed company, it enjoyed annual sales of more than US$1 billion.
Among the scores of brands helmed by J.S. Gill under RSH Ltd were the fashion phenomena Zara, Mango, Ted Baker, Massimo Dutti and Pull & Bear; iconic sports brands Reebok, Nike, Adidas and Puma; active lifestyle brands Lacoste, Quicksilver, Roxy and Diesel; and prestigious golfing brands Callaway, Mizuno, Wilson and Greg Norman.
In 2007, J.S. sold his majority share in RSH Ltd to a Middle Eastern consortium that made him an offer ‘too good to refuse’. In the same year, he took stock of his options, surveyed the retail landscape, and laid the foundations for his next business empire – Gill Capital.
